Random thought: Why are pipes always wrong on every UK keyboard?

Probably a throwback from American keyboards. They commonly have an elongated Left-Shift and as such, no \ key

The keyboard I am using at work has `, ¬ and ¦ for the top left and \ | for the bottom. Keyboard Logitech K120.

 

Anyway, back in the day I do remember the symbol in DOS being ¦ for pipe, so it may be a throw back.

 

Same here - Wireless Logitech and they are correct for me.

It's not often displayed on the keycaps of a UK keyboard, but pressing AltGr+# does indeed produce a backslash.

Stupid thing: never realised you could use Alt-Gr. I've always used Ctrl-Alt-4 to get €.
