Resolving an odd proxy setting issue

We are currently in the process of migrating our 32 bit Server 2008 standard edition to a new Server running Server 2012 R2. We had hoped to be moving to Hosted SIMS which would have allowed us to build a fresh domain as the existing one has been migrated from the days of NT!

 

Most things have gone well. However, we are encountering a very strange issue affecting just staff who are picking up a really old proxy setting. Even though we are now using the SWGfL SSLfilter this old proxy (which is clearly from another school and not having sslfilter) actually works. Unfortunately because of the way the old domain was set up it has several script files.

 

Searches so far have been fruitless in discovering where we are picking the proxy setting up from. Any suggestions please?

Possible culprits:

 

1. IEM - Even thought Internet Explorer maintenance is now deprecated, if you had an old group policy with the settings in, they may still be there taking effect even though you can't see them.

 

2. WPAD/PAC file - Check DNS and DHCP. Check for an option 252 in DHCP, or for DNS entries check for an alias called "WPAD".

 

3. Roaming/mandatory profiles - check the profile for any tattooed settings.

 

4. Erm... Evil web pixies.
