Hi

So for a second time, I need to change the name of our AD domain. Initially it was a new domain to merge 2 school networks together, and this time due to change of school name.

Has anyone ever done a domain rename, which has Exchange Server running also, and how did it go and or/any particular online guides you followed?

Ultimately, it is just going to be easier/safer to setup another DC for the new domain and then do a migration as I did before in stages?

Thanks.

What version of Exchange are you running? AFAIK only Exchange 2003 was happy with domain renames...

So... I'd go for a migration.

Exchange 2013 - Looks like migration will be the project from September! Think i'll call it something generic instead this time....

Lol... yep. How about "domain.internal" or "contoso.com"?

Not sure why .local isn't recommended. Never had any issues personally over the years.

Generally .local and .internal domain names aren't a great idea in case you want to use a "proper" SSL certificate internally from a Public CA.

That's the main reason I'm aware of.
