Hi,

Hoping this is something quite quick for someone to point me in the right place to look:

 

I have recently set up (with lots of help) 2 dc's that are replicated and both running dns..

I have turned off the old dc that was running the original dns -lets call it 1 and then new ones are 2 and 3.

 

some of my clients are still picking up dns 1 instead of 2 or 3 even with server 1 turned off - how is this possible?

 

I am doing flushdns on the affected clients - they may revert back to 2 /3 but then for some reason will go back to 1?... ( I am building a suite of machines so multiple reboots... )

 

Any ideas where it may be getting the old dns from ?....

What do you mean by they're picking up dns 1? Logon server wise? etc.

 

Did you leave DNS1 in the DHCP score under option 006?

 

Did you leave DNS1 in the DNS as a Name Server?

 

Is DNS1 still in the failover relations?

When you say "getting the old DNS" - do you mean that they're getting that IP as a DNS server (e.g. from DHCP)? or they're trying to contact it as a DC?

If you run ipconfig /all from a command prompt, it will tell you which DHCP server it's using. Is there another on your network with the old settings?

Ok so ,

Some of the clients were connecting to network 2 instead of the school domain. And when I did ipconfig all it was coming up with the DNS server as DNS1.

Not in school now ( have to leave by 3.30 during hols) but,

I believe that that the old server is a member server ( in think done by joining the domain?) of the new dc2.

I checked the name servers in dns on both dc2 and dc3 and made sure that any references to DNS1 FQDN was removed ...do I need to take off dc1 as a member server? Sorry to be so dim about this :-/
