[wds] WDS Windows 10

Hi everyone

 

I have a question about using WDS and windows 10 pro hoping someone might be able to confirm this for me please.

 

I have recently upgraded my machines from windows 7 pro to windows 10 pro (not Volume Licenses) all individual activations per licensed machine and was considering now using WDS and create a windows 10 image. When windows 10 upgrades it then activates for that machine as long as the hardware hasn't changed am I correct? So is it possible then to create an image of windows 10 deploy through WDS and (if previously activated) will it reactivate?

 

Hoping someone can confirm this for me.

Think so, I've done it, just don't supply a key in the unattended.xml

If it has been entered in before the sysprep then it should store it in the registry , what will happen it will ask you to activate but if you try it to activate it should remember the code and successfully do it

a) doesn't sysprep wipe the key as part of its generalise feature. b) doesn't need a key as it has a digital entitlement

but I am just wondering will that activate for the single machine? I was going to use a windows 10 pro image but would that activate with multiple machines as long as they have been activated before?

 

the code from memory looking at the windows 10 activations seems to be the same for each machine.

yea all these machines are digital entitlements with them running through the windows 7 pro to windows 10 pro upgrade.

no problem i am just going to wipe a machine out here install windows 10 and do all updates then sysprep it and see if it works

I didn't even bother with that, just got the wim file from the esd file and put that straight on WDS. Will do the same with the 1607 wim file.

You might aswell test a machine by wiping it and do one with an upgrade and see if it works. I know its slightly time consuming but you will find your answer for defo

no problem thank you both, ill take the wim file from the disc but as ITJ suggested i am going to try reinstalling windows 10 on this machine upgrade fully then sys prep and run the install from WDS although this will only test on that specific machine might need to try on another 1 or 2 machines to be safe. I just need to look at creating the unattended install xml
