Cisco 2851 Setup / Config

Hi There

 

Got a friend who is trying to get this cisco router working at home ( They are with virgin media for Broadband ) , please see all the attached files within the zip file

 

Just wanting to know if there is anything missing or not configured correctly ( all passwords have been blanked out for security reasons )

 

His laptop is connected to the cisco router using the interface that was configured for the internal network and is getting an ip address however it is not able to browse the internet or ping / trace route to any websites / servers etc

Just had a very quick look. IP Routing is disabled according to the running config. We can see "no ip routing"

 

Can he run the command IP Routing in privileged exec mode (configure terminal) and try again?

How do you do that exactly ?

Run these commands (from the start of the session)

 

1. Enable
   
2. Conf t
   
3. IP Routing

Maybe but trying to see how its done on the cisco side of things - speaking of which , would be good if i could get some cisco kit. Got any kicking about or any suggestions you could make model wise that I could get off of ebay for not too much money ?

 

Would like to have a go myself - might need more of ya help soon LOL

Are you going for a Cisco Certification?

 

If you wanted a test Cisco Packet Tracer is pretty good emulation software for people upto CCNA level.

My colleague / friend checked this and did some more digging around

 

In the commands input file - on this line :

 

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 g0/0

 

He is advising instead of having g0/0 to use the ip address of the router so presumably the public facing ip address of 10.10.10.1 or maybe the internal ip address ??

 

Its assigning devices with ip addresses but still not able to browse or do anything on the internet

That IP Route command is fine. You can use interfaces as well as IP. You will use an interface instead of an IP if you do not have a static public IP address, if you used an IP it would keep changing and break it!
