SpuffMonkey Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 My old Jura Imprezza F90 bean to cup machine died recently after many years of service. Being a bit of a caffeine fiend - disaster! After a lot of internet trawling, I saw the replacement I fancied (but could not afford) - the Melitta Caffeo Bistro - but then - gawd bless Amazon's non tax paying cotton socks - one appeared in their Amazon Warehouse section - box opened at half price. A very nervous few days ensued until it arrived - and although the box was really kicked about and the manual and water test strips were missing - it didn't look like it had ever been used. A couple of hours of messing about with the settings and its making better espresso than the old Jura ever did - yum!
southhamster Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 No sleep for you tonight then! #caffeinehigh I do love a proper coffee but can't really justify a machine. Ah well back to the cafetiere...
pcstru Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Very nice. Now, to come over fully to the dark side (or just a light cinnamon side) how about roasting your own beans?
SpuffMonkey Posted July 28, 2016 Author Posted July 28, 2016 Very nice. Now, to come over fully to the dark side (or just a light cinnamon side) how about roasting your own beans? Yeah - I've had a few goes - using a modded popcorn maker and on the hob - but never got anything as nice as from my preferred coffee shop (hasbean.co.uk) - and god did it make a mess - I didn't count on all the chaff that flies off - made a right mess of the kitchen - so much so I was banished to the garage I did look at getting a roaster, but can't really justify it at the moment.
vyperz Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Nice ihave a Gaggia Titanium at home ... about 6 years old now and still making top notch coffee... recently acquired a slighty cheaper gaggia for work.. such a coffee snob

Heh. I tried that trick too - didn't really work for me either. For a couple of years I used a heat-gun intended for paint stripping, a big wooden spoon and a big dog bowl, took 15-20 mins but I could roast ~500g at a time. Very much a Garden only activity. That joy was replaced by a hot-top roaster which has been banished to outhouses, greenhouses etc. The smell of roasting coffee is not particularly pleasant.
