[wds] TFTP download takes an age

Im trying to image several computers but as soon as the pxe boot gets to the TFTP download point the age of slowness begins. Then everything after this takes forever. Any advice?

Does imaging one PC work fine? What deployment system are you using?

Hi we are using hyper v server 2012 r2

Wds 2013. We have played about with the tftp blocksize to no avail. Imaging one pc is just as bad as multiple we are using 8 ports of the server in a nic team the 4 ports per card. Initially the intel team was picking up 100mb per server we have now fixed that by using hyperv nic team. Hope thats enough info

Have you tried just running a TFTP test from a client machine? Might help diagnose if there's a network issue or if it's an actual TFTP issue.

Think the command is something like: C:\TFTP server GET boot.wim

I have not any chance you can confirm the command please? Im fairly new to this level of troubleshooting

Make sure you've got the TFTP client installed on the Windows workstation you're testing from (check and install under Windows components) - then from a command prompt try this: "tfpt -i 192.168.x.x GET boot.wim" - where 192.168.x.x is the IP address of your TFTP server.

Ah i tried the boot.wim instant connect request file i then tried the file path of the wim im trying to deploy and it took 5 mins before saying the same thing hmmm

Have you got Windows Firewall turned on on the client?

There should be a SMSBoot folder. You can test files within there. So for example:

tftp -i ipaddress get smsboot\x64\afile.ext

After its downloaded the wim file how does it speed up at all?

Unfortunatly i was unable to test these as i got moved on to other tasks thanks for the replies tho ill let you know when the fault is found
