GIS devices and software? (Garmin 60 / ESri ArcGIS Desktop?)

Hi All,

 

I've been asked by our Geography department to purchase some Garmin 60's and ESri ArcGIS Desktop Educational Site License for their extended use of GIS next year.

Now... this is an area WAY out of my comfort zone, and none of the team are particularly clued up on this one either!

 

Is there anyone on here who makes particularly good use of things like this?

Is the Garmin device and above software route the right way to go? Would you advise any alternatives?

I'd also be interested in hearing which suppliers you went with, as my traditional IT ones are scratching their heads on this one a bit too!
