Windows Server 2016 - Microsoft DreamSpark

Hi,

 

I recently got approved on Microsoft DreamSpark. Do any of you know how long it takes for Microsoft to publish Server 2016 onto the Microsoft DreamSpark site after it's publically released? I can't find any specific answers online and am sure that many of you have used DreamSpark before so may be able to share your knowledge. Any help appreciated.

I would guess it'll go up there as soon as it's publicly released, so anytime between 26th and 30th September (assuming the rumors about the release date are true).

Can you generate a key?

I was able to generate keys for Essentials, Standard and Datacenter with no problem. Hmm, it's strange. I haven't tried downloading yet however. I'm just looking to test at the minute.

 

Update me if you get anywhere!

Good stuff! I'm cautious to update just yet as my lab's currently on 2012 R2 and quite happy! I wanted to ensure that I got a key before my "Imagine" subscription expires which is sometime in the next month or so. Most of my lab's on 2012 R2, with two 2008 R2 Servers running some general Admin software for devices as well as another Server running MDT.

 

I'll probably set up a test 2016 DC and see how it works as I haven't yet touched Windows 10 (thankfully!)

What do you tend to do with your labs? Like what sort of set up do you think about doing. I'm on Dreamspark but not sure what to try and implement for experience and training.

Virtualised Print Server, File Server, WSUS, RADIUS, Domain Controller, RDS Servers, IIS Servers etc the list goes on haha. Basically a small business setup within my Lab! I've got 4 servers at home. My primary hypervisor is an HP ProLiant ML350 G6 w/ 72GB's or RAM. My secondary Server is another ML350 G6 w/ 32GB's or RAM and my test server is an ML350 G5 w/ 24 GB's of RAM. All have a least two NICs on each to allow me to use different vSwitches for testing etc. It's a lot of fun to play with! It helps me with the fact that I work freelance with selected clients and gives me a chance to test out deployments out before I put them on live systems. I've worked with Servers for about eight years now (since Server 2003) so it's good to test out new OS' before implementing them. I'd be interested to see what systems you eventually get set up. I'm interested in RDS within 2016 as I mentioned to the other User in this thread that I haven't yet touched Windows 10.
