Field Based IT Engineer

Nexus Associates is an ICT consultancy that has been specialising in consultancy in the educational arena for over 14 years leading to successful implementations for our customers. We support our clients to develop an ICT rich environment from the initial building design through to the technical implementation and beyond by providing teacher training programmes that provide skills to staff enabling them to leverage the technology in the schools across the curriculum.

 

The Role

The role requires someone who has experience of planning installation and configuring small scale communications infrastructure solution and general IT implementations and moves. Day-to-day activities include an interesting variety of infrastructure planning/implementation, consultancy support and project coordination.

 

You will support the consultancy team in implementation of network solutions which provides the perfect platform to develop your own skills in network design, project planning and technical implementation.

 

This role is a good platform for further development into a network engineer, ICT consultant or Project Management depending on your skill set and interest.

 

Main Duties / Responsibilities

 

• Site surveys to establish building readiness for ICT installations
  
• Provide Infrastructure support in the implementation in all areas needed including the physical implementation of cabinets, switches and patching
  
• Plan the decommission and re-installation of ICT equipment in support of our delivery programmes
  
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation relating to the projects
  
• Interface with third party vendors
  
• Represent Nexus Associates in a professional and approachable manner
  
• Stay current with vendor changes, developments, and updates relevant to our markets
  

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

 

• The candidate will ideally have had at least 2 years’ demonstrable experience of supporting and deploying communications infrastructure
  
• Formal qualifications or equal experience within an IT discipline e.g. HND / Degree would be an advantage but are not essential.
  
• Server infrastructure knowledge is beneficial but not essential.
  

 

Demonstrable experience of the following;

 

• Understanding of networking fundamentals
  
• Physical cable patching of fibre and Ethernet
  
• Experience and understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs & Routing
  
• Network monitoring, troubleshooting and capacity planning
  

 

Familiarity with:

 

• VMware
  
• Server & Storage Hardware
  
• Windows Server & Microsoft Active Directory

• Prepared for travel UK wide
  
• The candidate must have a valid UK driving licence and access daily to a car
  

 

When not onsite you will work from home to complete activities as required to meet project deadlines. You must therefore have a suitable home environment to work from. You will be provided with a laptop and phone for business use. You will need to be located in the UK with easy access to central motorways and main line rail services.

 

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £18,000 - £30,000 /annum - experience and skills dependent (inclusive of a car allowance) plus expenses

 

Minimum Required experience:

Network/IT Engineer : 2 years
