Removing Students YOUTUBE Accounts

Just wanted to know what policy other schools are enforcing around this? We have several students (Year 7) who have Youtube accounts. Some with questionable videos with students dressed in uniform which is a no no straight off the bat. Others who post videos of themselves playing games etc which in itself is reasonably harmless. However they are openly advertising themselves to predators. Have any of you gone about getting Youtube channels deactivated? If so what was your method of doing it?

I don't think you can do anything about personal accounts all you can do is try and block access from within your site.

If the students are under 13, they aren't allowed a google account, so it might be possible to report the accounts...?

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I might go around it the Google Account route. I've done a fair amount of research already and its nigh on impossible to report them to Youtube for being a minor. There's just no options to do it. Its something that's been happening for years and its almost as difficult for us as a school to police as it is for Youtube/Google to make getting an account trickier.

What age does my child need to be to use YouTube?

In order to create a YouTube account, you must confirm that you’re at least 13 years old. If a video gets flagged and we find that the the uploader inaccurately stated their age during the account creation process, we will terminate their account.

 

Looks to me that parents could set up an account for an under 13 year olds and the account setup rules are circumnavigated because mummy or daddy did it for them.

 

Notify the parents you have done your bit then.
