chrbb Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Does anyone use windows catalog to distribute updates on their network. I've got wsus in one school, but no spare server software (or machine come to that in my other school) so looking for alternatives.
strawberry Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 cant say i do, but it might be worth running wsus as a virtual server or on an old desktop if you've got one spare.
Dos_Box Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 I run WSUS as a virtual server. Its a nice simple solution.
chrbb Posted February 10, 2008 Author Posted February 10, 2008 Any chance you could point me in the right direction to set up a virtual server? Thanks
strawberry Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 (edited) http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/virtualserver/ http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx install one of the above or a vmware product. The virtual hard drive is just a normal file, mount the hdd in a virtual machine and your away!. Have a little look around here for the concepts of a virtual machine, then the setup is very very easy!. Edited February 11, 2008 by strawberry
chrbb Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 Sorry really dim today! can you run virtual server on an xp pro machine to run wsus. I don't really want to install anything on the server and I don't have a spare server licence to setup wsus using server software.
