tben2505 Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 (edited) Hi guys, I have just found out that we're making teachers absent in cover, in order that they're not used. For example there might be a few teachers who need time off cover to get on with marking etc, so we need to "unfree" them. Obviously making them absent is not good at all - so I need to find a way to do it... Can I ask what you guys do? Also - for things like sports day - we require staff to supervise on the field, or there might be occasions/events where we need staff to help out. They need to be attached to these events so they're not freed up for cover. How do you add them to these events? Currently we close the rooms and add them there but it automatically adds them as an exam invigilator and causes confusion on the cover slips! Cheers Tom Edited June 28, 2016 by tben2505
vikpaw Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 You could timetable meeting time or PPA as a non-class code in Nova. This is usually more planned and formal. You could do similar for Sports Day type events, but it might be too much hassle to faff with the timetable for one off events.
ITJS2015 Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 If it is long term supply and they need access to sims you can enrole them on sims but then make sure who ever is your sims main guy to give them a supervisor role to there class Then your not removing the main class users for there class It is somewhere n system manager, please let me know if you need any more information
bobsmith Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 You can create internal absences that don't count against your official absence figures, this will free them up from lessons and cover for things like sports day, lesson obs etc. As vikpaw says, you can schedule non contact time formally in Nova - but this is best done for fixed regular things like PPA and QA meetings etc.
tben2505 Posted June 28, 2016 Author Posted June 28, 2016 Cheers guys - think the absence thing is the way to go! Cheers T
tben2505 Posted June 28, 2016 Author Posted June 28, 2016 Out of interest which of the categories for staff absence count as "present" ? Training?
bobsmith Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Tools > cover > Reasons for absence The internal unavailability flag ought to do the trick. Also taken from SIMS built in help icon: NOTE: If the Internal Unavailability check box is selected, then where a member of staff is absent for this reason, (e.g. in a meeting), the absence is counted in Cover only. This absence is not displayed or counted in Personnel records or in the Schools Workforce Census Return. 1
