jmak Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Hi All I've deployed MS Surface Pro 4 devices to teachers with Windows 10 Education installed. I've now seen a few instances where the machine doesn't boot with a press of the power key. The fix is to hold the power key down for 30s - I presume that this forces a cold boot rather than the hybrid shutdown. Does that sound likely? Some of the users only put their devices in sleep mode - I presume that the issue is likely to be the same - but there are some who (I trust to) definitely shut down their device every time and they get the issue too. Is there anything else I should investigate? Is anyone else seeing this with Surface Pros or hybrid shutdowns on other devices (I gather it's the same system on Windows 8, but called Fast Start). And do other people enforce a full shutdown through Group Policy, or do you live with the occasional blips? It's not a huge issue at the minute, but I'm looking to deploy Windows 10 to all devices for all users over the summer, so interested in others' experiences. Thanks
disk Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Did you use the recommended tools provided by Microsoft for your Surface deployments? Perhaps you are missing some firmware update or driver? https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/itpro/surface/microsoft-surface-deployment-accelerator 1
jmak Posted June 20, 2016 Author Posted June 20, 2016 The standard (ie not the Surface specific) deployment toolset was used, but at the time (April) all latest drivers were installed. I'll have another check on a device that hasn't been issued yet, but as normal, it's not all users or all devices or all of the time....
Arthur Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 at the time (April) all latest drivers were installed. The June update contains some additional fixes for sleep issues. www.microsoft.com/surface/en-gb/support/install-update-activate/surface-pro-4-update-history Surface UEFI v105.1203.768.0 improves system stability when the device resumes operation from sleep or hibernation, and optimizes battery use in connected standby. 1
noelmm Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Hi Jmak, We see the same issue with our Surface Pro 3s. Our staff have gotten used to having to hold the power button for 30s and then leaving it for 5s before powering the device back on. All of our devices have the latest updates however this has never resolved the issue, staff are now just used to it.
