ful56_uk Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Hello Does anyone know how to setup captive portal with Radius authentication on the ubiquiti kit? currently have a meru system with is due for renewal and i am looking at Ubiquiti as a replacement. We have multple Vlan on the meru and the meru controller acts as the captive portal which authenticates with a windows nps server. Would like to know if the Ubiquiti kit can do this as well.
Blue_Cookeh Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 (edited) Ubiquiti can do 802.1x against RADIUS, but it cannot do it using a captive portal. You would probably have to invest time and effort into creating your own Ubiquiti compatible portal and authentication mechanism. Arguably, you shouldn't be using a captive portal without a certificate if you're passing AD credentials across it, in which case you might as well have used 802.1x anyway. Saying that, I've had success using PacketFence/Ubiquiti/Cisco switches to get users to authenticate using a captive portal in an 'unsafe' VLAN and then moving them across to a 'safe' VLAN automatically if that's any better for you.
