GADS - any way to have different settings for different people?

Looking at GADS at the moment. For our staff accounts I only want the persons first initial to be shown in GAfE ie. Mr S Freeman. For students I want their full first name. Is there any way to achieve this using GADS? i can see under "additional user attributes" you can pull in Given Name attribute and Family Name attribute but for staff I want the Given Name attribute set to their first initial and for students I want their first name.

I don't think there is a easy way to specify different settings for different users. I think the way would be to have two separate upload template XML files, one for staff and one for students, set up and specify additional attributes from AD. But you would need these on AD First.

Also you'd have to be careful with the deleteion/suspension policy. I am not sure how that would work? It could be that you use a Google account that only has permission to create accounts in specific OU's on GAFE. One for staff and one for pupil creation.

You could just rename these different groups as required in your active directory?

That is an option thanks

Hi Guys,

Sorry to jump in late to the party. I had the initial question raised not too long ago and found the below answer really helped them.

"In GADS, under User Accounts, on the Additional User Attributes tab, set the Given Name Attributes(s): to "givenName" and the Family Name Attribute(s): to "sn" - that will give you first and last names from AD. if you have modified the Display Name field to differ from the givenName + sn, you could pull that using the displayName attribute for one and leaving the other blank. You can see the data element names in AD by going to View and checking Advanced Features, then opening a user property page and going to the Attribute Editor tab"

I wont take credit :)
