Quite possibly. I used to swear by TomTom, but now my car stereo has igo primo built in, I find that *far* better, and it's far cheaper too!

We have a TomTom with lifetime free map updates thanks to an offer when we bought it.

 

Our Volvo now has builtin satnav which is OK, but not as good as the TomTom for traffic routing. However, we can't justify paying TomTom for the traffic alerts and the speed cameras so we just use Google maps on a phone when we need to double check the Volvo's decision.

I still use the TomTom app on my phone because:

 

1) I find it better at routing me around traffic than Waze, Google and Apple Maps

2) The voices are better

3) The instructions are clearer (Seriously Google, "Head west"? I don't have a compass, I don't know which direction west is. Also, don't just tell me to go left at the roundabout, tell which which exit as well!)

 

Add to that, for all of its faults TomTom and their ilk have been making navigation software for a long time. I find their apps to be much more polished and refined than Google/Apple Maps when it comes to navigation. TomTom has things like speed camera alerts, speeding alerts, average speed monitoring and other features that I miss when I try the built in apps.

 

To each their own.

I was going to write a reply to this thread, but @Norphy has it covered.

 

I find the traffic avoidance the best I've tried - and the £34 for three years including worldwide maps and traffic seems like a bargain.
