Does anyone use Ricoh Windows Authentication?

We have a Ricoh MP C5503 and it's currently set up to use User Codes for print authentication with print hold for users. This has improved things in that we no longer have (such big) piles of uncollected printing, but means that users have to put their user code in the Printer Settings on every computer they use. There are threee problems with that: Firstly I haven't come across a user who remember how to do it without asking me (most staff users use the same computer most of the time); Secondly, if you haven't set it up, there's no warning and the print job just disappears. Finally (and most importantly), we've moved from year group AD sign in for pupils to individual accounts. With year group logins, there were usually <5 profiles per PC, so I could set them up individually, but currently pupils can't print.

 

I've found the User Authentication settings in the management portal and it looks like it's just a case of changing the setting to Windows Authentication and filling in the details of the DC. My question is whether anyone has used this set up and if it's straightforward and reliable. I can't think of a way of trialling it without impacting live users. I'll wait until the summer holiday if necessary, but that leaves us with no printing solution for pupils for the rest of the term.

You'll want to have a look at the Ricoh Printer Driver Packager. It allows you to highly edit the default Ricoh print driver to your liking. We've got it set up so that users are prompted for their code every time they try and print to the Ricoh.

 

Takes a bit of time to learn how it works but worth it in the end as we've got it set up just the way we want it. Once you've finished customising, you deploy the printer using the driver you've just packaged as you would any other printer.

This is how we had it setup however if you end up going down the route of papercut that integrates with ricoh devices fully so you won't need to edit the drivers since papercut handles all the print requests. I would certainly recommend it if you have a decent amount of printers around your site.
