HP Switch Issue

Hi everyone,

 

Literally started managing a small primary school - all our switches are HP.

 

The issue I am having is one of the switches died so we replaced it with a better one but now the config doesn't work on the new switch (one switch is comware 5 and the other is comware 7)

 

Does anyone know about HP Switches that could maybe tell me where I am going wrong

I think you might need to give us a bit more information. Have you imported the config from the old to the new switch? Would it be too big of a job to re configure the switch from scratch? What are you using the switch for, core? distribution? edge? are you using VLANs?

 

What are you using to configure the switch, command line or GUI?

I have seen that PDF - I tried importing the config from the old switch to the new one but the new switch doesn't accept some of the config - I do not think it would be too hard to reconfigure I just do not know how to be honest - the switch is acting as a core and 4 vlans across the whole network - I am using the CLI and GUI.

Do you have the config as text? You should be able to then just pop that into the cli with one or two changes.

To explain it over a forum would be a pretty tall order.

 

If it were me I'd remove all VLANs, apart from native VLAN or course, and make sure it's working.

 

You should be able to refer to your old config and apply the same config to the switch and each port manually. Take a printout of the old config to make it easier to follow.

Use the GUI if you're not familiar with the commands

 

Add the VLANs one by one, add the VLAN to the switch and then to the ports required. As it's your core you won't have many ports to configure. Presumably you have the the same number of ports to the old switch, 24?
