Setting up and configuring a Share on a new Windows 2012 file server

All the user documents for Admin, Teachers and Students are on Windows 2003 server and I will be migrating all the data from this server to our new Windows 2012 sever.

We use VMware and have built a new Windows 2012 File server. I have added the File and Storage Services role to this server and also added a second Hard disk with one partition and provisioned a size of 1.9TB and have created a folder called DATA on E drive.I have not created a share on Windows 2012

I opened the server manager on windows 2012- Shares-

- TASKS

–New Share

Under select Profile - SMB Share (Quick)

Share Location- Custom Path =E:\Data

Share Name: Shared

Under Other settings – 1) It asks for Enable access-based enumeration

2) Allow caching of share

By default it has taken Allow caching of share- Not sure which one to select.

 

Currently, All Teachers and Admin Staff Home drive is set for offline access (GPO is setup)– They have access to their mapped home drive even their laptops are disconnected from the network. This is useful when staff take their laptop to home and work and the changed files syncs with the user's network home drive on the server when the laptop is connected back to our network.

 

There will be other shared folders created within the Data folder for Example; CCTV, Finance etc.

and will be mapped with drive for these staffs and they don’t need offline access to these CCTV, Finance drives.



Please suggest me what settings I need to enable during the share creation for my scenario, do I need to select Enable access-based enumeration\Allow caching of share\

I have heard about Folder redirection setup and not sure if this will be ok for my scenario.

Please suggest me if you have better ideas, would like to set up this new file server efficiently.
