FMS migration prereq's

Hi All

 

Yes I know I'm a bit of a late starter, but I'm looking to do the FMS migration to SQL.

 

Currently we are running FMS 6.83 on our server (think it's the same on the clients). As a pre-req I need to upgrade it to 6.85 before starting the process

 

How the hell do I do this?

 

I've tried it via solus but apparently we aren't a managed site so cant do FMS via solus

If you aren't a single site then your LA support team should be helping you with this. Who do you actually pay money to for SIMS? LA or Capita?

LEA support? Don't make me laugh We pay capita for a very basic support service per year (it barely covers sims)

 

Everything else is, well.. you know

 

FMS migration doesn't look too bad, it's just this pre-req. The hardest bit will be getting the bursar to do the reconciling

forgot to say - we can download sims updates as normal via solus it's just FMS

As you might have gathered from my post, we had it available through SOLUS. You could try getting the 6.85 release from Capita on CD. When you do "update and run solus" from the start menu, does it offer an option to log in to SIMS and FMS or just SIMS? We have to provide credentials for both and then it will check for updates to both.

 

Also, if you log on to Supportnet there's a sticky on the front page about upgrading your FMS to SQL which may have the info you need.

Thanks for that, yeh - we have the option of logging into FMS and SIMS for upgrades, have credentials for both but there's nothin there. I've raised a ticket (lol) hopefully they're gonna release it in Solus sometime in the next 24 hours

OK, I have the 6.85 files downloaded via SOLUS but I havent applied it yet.

 

Anyone know what the process is for upgrading from 6.83 to 6.85? I've never touched FMS before. We are still on SQLAnywhere at the moment.

There should be a migration document available on supportnet. It's quite an involved process and you also need to obtain a license for use during migration from lea/capita.

Are you sure? Thought that was only for the 6.91 upgrade you needed the licence files

Oh, I see, 6.85 would be normal upgrade then, It's the intermediate version between 6.8 and 6.9. It's been a while since I did the upgrade

Oh, and you don't have to be a managed site to get FMS upgrades, your LEA should get them released to you.

Thanks So I just make sure everyone is off and let SOLUS do the upgrade or.. That sounds too easy:D

That's pretty much it.. you'll want to make sure your clients are all updated and working as well before you do the big evil migration 6.83 -> 6.85 worked OK for us, but as always, make sure you have a working backup before you do an FMS upgrade.
