Hi,

I'm trying to set up my documents folder redirection for staff. Everything is set up, the users folders are created and the permissons are set etc... However I keep getting the following error in event viewer :

Event Type: Error

Event Source: Folder Redirection

Event Category: None

Event ID: 112

Date: 06/02/2008

Time: 09:11:03

User: ACADEMIC\dwilson

Computer: 39-01

Description:

Failed to perform redirection of folder My Documents. The files for the redirected folder could not be moved to the new location. The folder is configured to be redirected to <\\dc01\Staff\%username%>. Files were being moved from to <\\dc01\Staff\Dwilson>. The following error occurred while copying to <\\dc01\Staff\Dwilson\desktop.ini>:

The security descriptor structure is invalid.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I've reached the point where I can't see the wood for the trees with this problem

If anyone has any suggestions or advice, it is more than welcome :)

Thanks in advance,

Ross

...and if that doesn't work, try changing their access rights on their home folder from "modify" to "full control". It fixed a similar problem for us many moons ago, although I can't remember the exact error message (it's before we logged calls)

@Plexer: Tried that and makes no difference

@sahmeepee: Staff already have full access to their home dirs.

I think it might be a permission issue on the local PC

My Head hurts now :(

Did you want the My Documents folder copied from the local machine to the server?

Have you tried unchecking the 'Move the contents of My Documents to the new location' ?

Is sounds like a share permissions issue, not an NTFS permissions issue.

I assume each user's home directory is shared?

Make sure that the SHARE permissions are Allow: 'Change', 'Read' AND 'Full Control'.

You shouldn't need to, but I always put the full path to the My Documents folder:

\\server-name\%username%\My Documents

Hope this helps

To be honest, trying that hadn't even crossed my mind! :o How shocking :p

The test client has decided to keel over so once I've re-imaged it, I'll be trying it out.

Cheers

I'm having the same issue, but only on one particular computer model.

The only difference between this one (Lenovo X61 Tablet) and every other pc we're using is that we had to use the factory configuration for the tablet. We couldn't get the hardware to work after reinstalling XP w/SP2 from scratch, so we needed the factory defaults. They even have it setup by default to override your home page with theirs (boo!), but we've gotten around their branding by using their app Access Connections to override their first override. Get it?

I absolutely cannot put my finger on it, but I'm assuming that's due to lack of knowledge on any local processes that manage folder redirection.

What can I check on the local pc that might indicate why folder redirection is being blocked? Share permissions are set just fine (works perfectly from any other computer on the domain with any username) and the "gpresult /v" says that all aspects of the policy are being applied EXCEPT the folder redirection!
