file extensions

Hi all,

 

Was hoping to find out if anyone new if it's possible to remove the custom file extension filter (or add to it) that is applied to the upload box. I've added Smart Notebook to the list of file extensions allowed, but when a user comes to upload it they have to click on the extension drop and choose all files - so quite a problem to staff ("all my files have vanished!")

 

So can I remove the custom file extension filter? So it'l let them choose any file? (It still would tell them if its not allowed) Or can I edit this custom file filter?

Hi,

 

Probably the easiest way is to just remove the filter to allow everyone to upload any file type. This comes with the risks of people being able to upload any file type, so it's up to you. If you open the hapconfig.xml file and look for the following line (should be near the bottom of the file):

 

 

Remove the Domain Admins text and type in All (or a comma separated list of user groups if you prefer to only let certain users upload anything), so it looks like the following:

 

---- or ----

 

Then save the file and refresh the page. IE should then allow the All Files (*.*) option. Alternatively, in IE staff could change the upload window filer to be All Files (*.*) to show all items, but only the allowed file types will be uploaded. Other web browsers don't seem to have the filter shown for them, but only allow the files that have been defined to upload to HAP+ too (obviously, this probably isn't the best solution).

Thanks @Stuajnht I will just make sure file screens on win server are on instead then! Any implications on not using the built in file screen in hap if I use windows file screens instead?

I can't say that I've noticed any problems, although we're quite lenient here about what files users can store.

 

If you're concerned that students may upload questionable file types (if they can't just currently copy them off USB devices, download from emails, etc...) then I'd just set the "All Files" option to only allow any staff AD groups the option to upload anything. That way, staff can upload what they need, and students are "locked down".
