genesis Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 (edited) Hi We have a file server (Virtual server) , where all students and staff home drives and also the admin and teacher's Shared drives are located. We have the Media folder as well on this server and the size of the medial file is around 300Gb. Now planning to move all the media file to a different server and map the drive only to the media department only. I think it takes lot ofload on this file server. Please suggest is a good idea to have a separate mediaserver /is there a better way to set up this... Any suggestion much appreciated. Thanks. Edited May 19, 2016 by genesis
ColinP Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 Ive done something similar but a lot more media, our setup was 2x virtual hosts connected to a san. when we had a high number of students all streaming the same files, it realy slowed down the whole network. So i created a 3rd host , but with local storage, teamed nics across switches moved over the media server and cctv server everything is now much better. im probably going to move over some other servers that dont need clustering but can requre alot of dedicated bandwith like WDS 1
