Home Access Plus - Staff and Students can't access My Files

Hi All

 

I've set up HAP 10 successfully and staff and students can login with their AD credentials fine. However staff and students cant seem to access any drives through the my files part of HAP but Domain admins can access all of the drives set in the My Files area of the configuration.

 

Here is an example of a snippet of code I am trying to get to work for staff and students:

 

\\Fileserver\Student Redirection\15\15test

\\sharedres\staff resources

 

Do the file servers need to have any sort of special permission applied to them to allow HAP access to the shares as the logged in user?

The solution is simple (or to how I'm seeing it)

 

Your 'Enablereadto' and enablewriteto are set to Domain Admins and 15?

 

For my schoo we have the following for their home drive;

%homedir%

 

All of our staff (which include the domain admins) falls under 'All Staff' and same for students, the file path may cause issues when you login as different users as currently Domain Admin (and 15) will access the 15test folder. Here we have the attributes for home directory set in the active directory so the variable %homedir% will allow current user to access their home drive.

The drive mapping set to Domain Admins and 15 are for testing, we are trying to get the user 15test to access their redirected folder on our file server (we don't use home drives in AD, never have, just folder redirection) the folder they need access to is \\fileserver\student redirection\15\15test but access does not work, only for domain admins...

 

The drive mapping below does now work for staff who log in, only domain admins, every variation of usagemode="" we have tried does not work and the user just gets "something is wrong" error when attempting to access files

\\sharedres\staff resources

 

Setting 'Enablereadto' and 'Enablewriteto' to All does not make a difference...

 

Any ideas?

Possibly, Are you editing via the code or the Configuration screen?

Didn't see the error lol (guess it wasn't working by the rest of the post lol)

 

I'd say work with the configuration pages, I've had issues sometimes but it keeps HAP+ stable; I've had issues where layouts on the main page goes all over the place because of messing around the config file however there are times where changing the config file is the only way so kinda double edged blade here.

 

I'd say remove all the 'drives' from the webconfig (back them up on another notepad), the enter and save each drive one by one. (Or at least 1, test it then add another at a time etc.). using the Configuration screen. Just make sure you 'login' as show in my guide because when you select the groups you give permission too it will load your AD and you know exactly which groups you/hap are adding.

 

As a rule of thumb too keep back up your files (I just zip them up) so when I do changes so I can just restore them right there and then etc. Let me know how you get on

We've checked and checked again, it seems to be ignoring the staff and student permissions and only working for domain admins, where else could we look?

With a test user (15test) we've added to AD the setting under profile -> Home Folder -> Connect: O: \\Datacentre\Student Redirection\15\15Test (this works fine when the user logs in to Windows and gets an O drive as expected.

In Hap + We've created the drive map to: Drive: O, Name: My Files, UNC: %homedir%, Enable Read To: All, Enable Write To: All, Usage Mode: Drive Space (and tried with Quota and None)

15 test can access HAP + just fine but when accessing the My Files section they don't get their mapped drive, just receiving the 'something is wrong' message three times in the top left of the page.

 

Same for just regular drive maps, putting in the UNC path and giving permission to our staff group, they cant access it in My Files, but logging in as a Domain Admin access to the share works perfectly.

 

There must be something we are missing or a permission somewhere which needs looking at...

Ok we fixed it

 

Turns out we had to allow our users to be able to log on locally to the server where HAP + is installed and we did this by modifying the group policy that was preventing users doing so.

 

Would have been handy if this was in the documentation as something to look out for.
