Adobe Media Encoder want quicktime I do not!

How do you get round the issue of Adobe Media Encoder wanting quicktime install. This is the error I get without quicktime.

 

File Import Error

 

The file %path%\filename.mov could not be imported. Source file has no importable streams. Please check that its a valid video/audio file.

 

I am wondering if VLC could be use as an alternative?

You will need a codec pack that replaces Quicktime I suspect. VLC is all compiled into itself so Windows apps mostly cant use its libraries.

I've always used the K-Lite codec pack, seems to have everything I've needed, though I've not used the Adobe Media Encoder...
