Network cabinet depth

What cabinet depths do you have? Asking the question because the majority of ours are 450mm, we are looking to move to PoE and a quote we had says that all cabs need upgrading to 600mm to accommodate the PoE switches due to depth of them.

On some cabs you might get away with 1u injectors which will fit in a smaller cabinet

We are looking at the same thing and also limiting the number of switches we have dotted around the place. We have in one building 6 switches in different areas which we are condensing to 3 (1 24port poe, 2 non-poe 48 port switches and a little rack ups.)

Thinking of moving to PoE to move away from injectors, currently use Toughswitches for wifi and CCTV but are looking to move to VOIP . I'm just a bit concerned in some areas that the cabs will stick out too much

Certain switches do have a depth of over 17". Ours are 17.7" or 450mm, so a 450mm cab wouldn't be enough. You need to check the model of the switches you're having and look at the dimensions. We have 600mm depth cabs throughout the site to cater for the size plus the power lead and patch leads with enough room to comfortably close the cab.

 

You would need to evaluate how far they protrude if they are at a lowish level as we had a game with health and safety and had to have quite a lot of power etc. moved and the cabs up higher. If it's in a classroom i probably wouldn't have black again, we've changed a lot of ours to a grey. The only ones we could get 7 years ago were black, but they really stand out in a room.

We mostly have 450mm network cabinets, and our (HP) PoE switches only just fit, to the extent that we have to use right-angle power connectors to get them in at all. 600mm would definatly be better. Also, as we found out with a switch in a classroom, a typical PoE switch is quite noisy, with whizzing fans for cooling that extra power used. We wound up buying a sound-insulated cabinet for that classroom, but it might be an idea looking at those in general anyway as you can hear the switches whizzing away when you stand in the corridors sometimes, they are quite noisy.

You'd think someone would offer a 2U POE switch which is shalow and with a nice big slow fan. Mind you, if your cabinets are out like mine there packed anyway.

Or seperate PSUs - I imagine the extra depth is due to that. I really don't fancy the prospect of cab changing, juggling with fibre trays isn't my idea of a fun day out :/ I hadn't considered the noise and I can think of a few areas where that could be an issue

We put PoE out across the school last summer and had to replace all our cabs for 600mm deep.
