Need a new backup system after price increase for backup exec by 500%

Hi

 

Our backup system currently uses backup exec on an annual licence and the fee is going to go up from £600 to over £3000!! So I am looking for a new backup system.

 

Can anyone recommend one to use?

 

We currently have a D-D-T system with HP DL180 G6 servers both with 12TB of useable space and a HP autoloader.

 

We need more storage as we have maxed out the 12TB. (Each backup server has 12TB)

 

Does anyone have any advice on what systems to look at? Software they can recommend? Suppliers to speak to? Our school is reluctant to move onto a monthly payable cloud system, but I would like to investigate cloud backup as an option.

 

I should add we are physical servers with an rm cc4 network. We do have a moodle server running on xen server that would need to be backed up as well.

 

Servers to be backed up are

 

3 physical cc4 servers

1 physical windows server

1 qnap nas

1 virtual moodle server

Is this for physical boxes only? Or are those 12TB ones the backup servers?

 

Veeam would be the obvious one for Virtual, and then turn dedup on the backup boxes. We have over 30TB of backups using 7TB space using dedup on our repository.

Sorry yes the 12 TB is the backup server.

defo veeam for virtuals, and although not supported (still works however). Veeam endpoint backup(free), for the hosts.

Have you considered cloud-based backups for these? The price you will pay depends on the amount of data and that varies a bit but we pay around £2.00 per Gigabyte (I think...)
