I share an office with the Exams team who spend a great deal of time at this time of year planning the forthcoming exam season. Part of this work is assigning invigilators to the exams which involves lots of e-mails, text messages, phone calls and stress.

Our Exam Officer mentioned that she knows the National Trust have an online system whereby their volunteer staff can assign themselves to attend when there is a need and I was wondering if there is anyone out there doing a similar thing for their invigilators. I am thinking of a system where the Exam Officer can set up a series of "sessions" and then the invigilators can pick the ones they want to attend; the system would have certain rules to make sure the correct number of invigilators are assigned to each session and there is the correct mix of male and female invigilators.

Does anyone know of such a system?
