Unallocated space on server

Hi all,

 

Right we have been given a server with 3TB of hard drive space setup in RAID 10.

 

I have installed Server 2012R2, but when I go to Disk Management to create the partitions I have 2 unallocated spaces 1898GB and 745GB. I can use the 1898GB to create partitions, but not the 745GB (all options are greyed out).

 

After creating all the partitions I still have around 400GB left out of the 1898GB but I do not want to waste 745GB of hard drive space.

 

Any ideas what I can do to sort this? I am hoping I wont have to mess with the RAID Array.

I think you've landed in the middle of a MBR/GPT battle with the 2TB limits.

 

Can we see a screenshot of disk management please.

 

Is this a single 3TB RAID volume and you've installed windows onto that or is windows on a separate boot volume?

i think you can convert a disk to gpt but not sure its something id necessarily want to do on a live server

Its not in use yet, I am just setting it up at the moment.

Just reinstalling 2012 after using DISKPART to convert disk to GPT. Fingers crossed.

I had to do it on one of our servers after upping the raid, just booted into linux and ran gdisk. The conversion is instant.

After some research last night (I know, I need to get out more) the RAID controller in the server is a PERC 5i which has a 2TB limit.

 

At least I solved it lol.
