Hi All,

I'm new to SCCM and I'm about to setup PXE for the first time in a production environment (SCCM 2012 RTM... I know i need to upgrade). Now I have about 100 physical machines on my network and I am not 100% sure what computers have network boot as the first boot option... i know some do exist. The rest of my environment is virtual and I know network boot is not enabled for those VDI's.

If I enable PXE and enable PXE response from the server what happens when those computers that have network boot as the first boot option actually boot-up (this is assuming PXE is working correctly with DHCP config complete)? Will they contact PXE then just continue with the boot process as there is nothing to deploy or will they enter?

I know i'm green but I have watch some videos but they are usually in a test environment so they are not concerned about the risk

Assuming it's not got anything flagged to it, it'll attempt to pxeboot, get a no flag/advertisement command and then ignore it and boot normally.

Unless you hit F12 etc to boot into network though :)
