PotNoodleTech Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 We have any Citizens of the Stars here? I never croudfunded anything before and I like the outrageous scope of the project so much I picked up the cheapest package. After a bit of walking round, flying around - I am totally amazed at what they've managed to do already. The amount of graphical detail they are putting in to everything is jaw dropping. I hope they are able to put the same exacting detail into every facet of the game.
Arreks Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Yeah I backed it early last year, I've had some fun in it! Haven't played in a while though because it depresses me how little actually gets changed/added in their updates! (apart from a new $500 ship or something).
PotNoodleTech Posted March 31, 2016 Author Posted March 31, 2016 Yes I agree with that they already have way more and varied ships than elite dangerous and that's been finished for two years! I think like you say they need to stop spending massive resources adding more ships, and actually add some more content. I think it would be cool if they were able to do one test "route" for each type - e.g. a trade route, a mining route, a smuggling route, etc. That way everyone would have something to try out there are load of people who bought trade ships and cant do any trading in them - we could be testing trade mechanics right now!
twin--turbo Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 I thought this was going to be about mid 90's dot matrix printers
neilmc Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 This looks soo cool, Ive never actually heard of it, its a real shame I don't have a windows machine to play it on. Whats it like? How much money have you spent on it, everything seems to have a price attached.
PotNoodleTech Posted April 4, 2016 Author Posted April 4, 2016 (edited) Yes the reason everything seems to have a price attached is that this is their way of crowdfunding it. If you spend £45 on the cheapest in game package pledge, you get a small multirole ship that you can do anything with, you get full access to the persistent open world universe when it launches (and you get to be able to use you're ship immediately), and you get full access to the cinematic single player campaign (think mass effect/battlestar galactica/etc). It's a risk in that it may never actually be finished but I think it's a very small risk given the creators track record of delivering. I also think it's a bargain because for £45 you get two AAA rated games - what looks to be a pretty epic campaign mode, and an even more epic MMO online universe a'la Elite Dangerous (Elite dangerous has already cost most people at least £50 so far) It's up to you how much you pledge there are tens of different ways and ships from the £45 one to the £11,000 "TAKE MY MONEY" package that gives you most of the ships that will exist. I may spend a bit more (not too much mind) as I love what they are doing and they are doing an outstanding job of going "full on". The graphics are unbelievable at 1080p with all the gubbins turned on and the sheer amount of detail in every square meter is jaw dropping. In terms of what you can do in the game right now, not too much really. There's a single player free flight mode, and a swarm mode where you face waves of enemies in up to 18 waves. There is a multiplayer version of the swarm mode, then there is the pvp deathmatch options (deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, free flight). Then there is the online only persistant universe trial, which is one system (one star) with a few places to go and a few things to do, plenty of emergent gameplay happening. You can already join Organistations (clans) and hook up with you're buddies, multi crew ships already exist. Really, think of it as crowdfunding a product in the traditional sense, except instead of waiting 3 years to get the product, they give you their work in progress product right now and let you use it, and then give you an updated version of the product at least once per month over the next ~three years. Arreks Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Hopefully the open world won't have the horrific FPS issues on release. The co-op play modes like bot swarm have no issues at all. Going back to my last post, one of the updates recently only added a ship yet it was a 10GB update.. sigh. I don't have the time and energy to download a single ship that I'm not going to spend a lot of money on so I'll probably update in bulk once they do something worthwhile to it.
Duranis Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 I have been watching this game for a long time but have to say I'm getting less and less excited about it. It looks amazing but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere other than being a "purchase virtual spaceships for increasing amounts of real world money" simulator. Other than lots of new ships (which cost a fairly big chunk of real money) it doesn't really have much different then when I looked at it about a year ago.
