dibekem Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Hi guys. I’m havingproblems with an HP ProLiant ML350 G6 server that has Windows Server 2008 R2installed. Basicallythe Windows server backup keeps failing to back up the server. It used to workthen started to play up until I rebooted. After it worked for about 2 weeksbefore I had to reboot the server again but recently I started the backup andafter backing up the C drive it just failed. It could not locate the H drivewhich was a USB drive plugged into the server. After trying different usbsockets on the server and trying different USB drives I always get the sameproblem. Now thesituation is so bad that if I plug in a usb drive it start freezing crushingthe server to a point that I have to reboot the server. After rebooting theserver everything is fine as long as the usb drive is not plugged in. So I’mpretty sure that one of the USB driver out of date. When I try to update the USBdrivers in the device manager it just says that they are all up to date. I found a website where I downloaded HP SmartUpdate Manager. That looked promising, found loads of drivers but when I triedto install them it always fail after 5% installation. Weird. I haveattached a pic about the USB drivers that I have on this server. Any helpwould be much appreciated! J
smithson83 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Could be the USB controller, maybe try a PCI/PCIe USB card? I use one that adds USB3 to our servers and backup to USB-HDDs 1
dibekem Posted March 17, 2016 Author Posted March 17, 2016 Thanks for your reply. Do you mean to get a new card? I guess I would have the right driver then.
edutech4schools Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Our servers lists errors in event logs If I attach a cheap USB drives but seems fine with WD pro drives.
smithson83 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) The Card we use is the Startech 2 Port PCI Express SuperSpeed USB3 w/UASP PEXUSB3S25, nothing fancy (its a secondary backup for offsite), but it does the job. Edited March 17, 2016 by smithson83
dibekem Posted March 17, 2016 Author Posted March 17, 2016 Thanks I have an intenso drive I might try that tomorrow. Thanks for the card. quite cheap school can't complain about this expense if it comes to it:) Would this fit into my server though? I guess I have to check that before buying!
