Slow opening of files on 2012 R2

Hi,

 

We have a redirected downloads folder so when staff download documents etc from the Internet, they're actually stored on one of our 2012 R2 file servers. If we try and open office files downloaded it can take up to five minutes to open. If we move that file from the downloads folder to another folder or have it download directly onto a 2008 file server it opens straight away.

 

Any ideas?
