talksr Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Hi there, Does anyone have a known supplier of alternative iPad lightening cables? We have been getting through the expensive Apple ones at a fast rate as pupils and staff are slamming the door of our iPad dock down so hard, it is slicing through the cables. I am wondering if anyone knows of some 30cm style leads which would do the job. We did try some from Ebay, but they fell apart within days. They need to be quite strong to withstand the demands of school use. I have attached an image of our current 'solution'.
Steve21 Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Not tried them yet but it's on my list to do so as they seem to get good reviews and cheaper + MFI approved. Xenta Lightning to USB cable 1.5M Black - Ebuyer Or did you only want 30cms? Steve 1
Jamman960 Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 We've recently brought startech lightening cables, they seem sturdy enough and come with a 2yr warranty 1
rich_tech Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 You can order short ones, for docks like that I believe Griffin do them as well to go with their multidocks as we had the option here, though we just used the supplied lighting cables. You can also buy cable tidying sheaths in your local pound shop I notice, as I tied up all my household cables into a neat single cable with one the other day.
talksr Posted March 10, 2016 Author Posted March 10, 2016 Thanks, yes looking to get as short as I can. Wondering if something like this may work? StarTech.com 0.3m 1ft Coiled Apple 8 Pin Lightning to USB Cable - Black: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
VeryPC_Colin_M Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I'd recommend you look into Apple Mfi certified braided cables, 25cm ones can be had for under £7 a pop. 1
Linfit Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 We have used the AmazonBasics ones for some time and have had no issues with them. Unfortunately they don't seem to do 30cm, although they do have some 10cm.

Thanks, they look just about the right length. Where can you get those from? We have used the AmazonBasics ones for some time and have had no issues with them. Unfortunately they don't seem to do 30cm, although they do have some 10cm. Thanks, my girl friend is on her 3rd Amazon Basics lead, so not sure I would go with those. She is quite careful unlike the delightful staff and pupils here. I don't think it would last a week!
VeryPC_Colin_M Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Thanks, they look just about the right length. Where can you get those from? Yeah I reckoned on them being what you'd like. You can get them from me, £6.75ea plus the carriage (can get 1m @ £7.85 and 2m @ £8.95 too) 1
mikkydoos Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I use these Xenta Lightning to USB cable 1.5M Green - Ebuyer They're not cheap but they're pretty indestructible. Not had any broken ones in a year.

dry Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I'd recommend braided cables too, but be careful as they are rather desirable and have a habit of going missing! We have the same iPad trolley case as you and I ended up velcro-ing the cables together, so that there's only a very short flying tail for people to plug the iPads in using. It seems to have helped keep the trolley case tidier 1
Blue_Cookeh Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I use Anker cables for ours, and at home. Really nice and not had any break in the last year. Also MFi certified. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Release-Anker-Lightning-Connector-Certified/dp/B00UBLKS6E We just put ours in our netbook trolley since we had a load of space left in one of them.
