Sanyo PLV-WF10 error code. Something to try or worth fixing?

Someone was cleaning out the old decommissioned stock and i saw a high end (oldish) 16:9 projector thought i would grab it and see if i could get it going. This projector was a swapped for the client hot spare and never sent to repair so i have no idea how many hours on it.

 

Its a Sanyo PLV-WF10 and it looks pretty good! Decent res, dvi input and 4000 lumens.

So I visually checked both lamps and they look very clean and free of any damage. Same goes for the lens, it fitted with a "Short throw high precision lens" which i think its optional extra that costs a fair bit. Check the two dust filters and checked the mains fuse. Should also mention inside looks pristine as though it was new!

 

When I connect power, after about 3-5secs the "Ready" light illuminates. When i hit the power on button all the fans start (i checked each one) and a couple of seconds later both lamps arc and i see light coming out the lens. It only stay on for about 2 seconds before turning off and flashing an error code. "Ready" and the Temperature indicator flash together.

 

The user manual says this means "The projector detects an abnormal condition and cannot be turned on. Unplug the AC Power Cord and plug it again to turn on the projector. If the projector is turned off again, disconnect the AC Power Cord and contact the dealer or the service center for service and checkup. Do not leave the projector on. It may cause electric shock or a fire hazard."

 

After some research it seem some projectors has a thermal switch that will stop the projector from starting but I cant see anything like that in the service manual.

 

So two questions:

A. Does anyone have an ideas of what i could possibly try? I'm not an electrical engineer but know how too use a mulit-meter and soldering iron! (famous last words...)

B. Is this projector worth paying someone to repair?

sounds a little bit like a fan error or temp sensor issue. The projector is detecting things are not as expected and will just shut down to protect itself.

Check fans are turning as expected and any sensors are plugged in to the circuit board ok.

 

Do you have a use for the projector, or is it a bit of a pet project?

I did check everything I could get too without removing the main pcb.

Removing this could be the next step.

 

It will be for personal use, maybe outdoor cinema nights. Would probably set it up for big sporting events occasionely. Don't have a space for a permanent setup atm, i think the min throw is going to be large even with the short zoom lens
