Hi All,

Can anyone point me in the right direction....we are looking for an alternative to our current paging system which bleeps and displays a text message on the screens. They initially want two way radio's which must be encrypted. What do you use in your school and can anyone help on this.

Cheers

We looked into this a while ago, the newer digital two way radios can handle text and voice, and can be encrypted...

They're more expensive, but worth it - the clarity you get on digital radios is far superior to the older one... sadly the powers-that-be at my place decided against them, so we've still got areas of the school that people can't be reached in...

We use 2 way radios as all of site can be covered, however you soon hit privicy issues as any info cones out of the speaker for all to hear.

If you have full wifi coverage would it be worth looking at running an internal voip style server and getting some cheap wifi voip phones?

At my old job we used two-way radios for basic communication between me and my manager. There was no confidential information discussed it was primarily used for location or to report to a particular location where other stuff could be discussed. It worked quite well, especially during fire-drills where the business manager and kitchen staff would also have one to co-ordinate their locations to ensure they were out of school (and also for when it was safe to come back in again)
