cpjitservices Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Absolutely I couldn't agree more with that. I remember seeing one particular company at BETT last year (one of the list above) who guaranteed they could do a full Gbit throughput with all UTM functionality turned on scanning all user traffic for a secondary school for one of their standard devices. The conversation didn't go much further as they were talking rubbish.... Ive seen the same sort of spout also. There's no way you can run at full capacity with ALL UTM Services enabled.
kearton Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 How up to date is this attachment? Bits of it are pre Sophos/Cyberoam merger... 1
kearton Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Ive just had a look at that table and there should be quite a few ticks under the Fortinet which are not there at the moment. If you told me that a few weeks ago I'd have been interested in getting a correction, however my recent dealings with Fortinet have left a VERY sour taste in my mouth. Fortinet bought Meru. A site we support had a failed Meru controller. Had a nightmare trying to get support and eventually got the RMA process rolling (warranty replacement, shipped from overseas) Then we got a phonecall from UPS asking about CUSTOMS DUTY and that we had to pay to receive it. Fortinet also say we have to pay to have the old one shipped back to them. Lets just say I'll never be buying anything Fortinet (or Meru) branded in the future...
zag Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Sophos and smoothwall are good. Smoothwall is very expensive these days though.
caffrey Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Sophos and smoothwall are good. Smoothwall is very expensive these days though. I agree, especially with the service tickets, although I've nothing to compare it with. Also I'm running Smoothwall on our own hardware and I think the price is comparable with other UTM's with their own hardware
Wave9_Lee Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Plus one for SOPHOS. We think it's excellent feature-wise, have deployed hundreds without issue. As you say, you need to get the hardware right, and stick with the current operating system for now. Some interesting developments coming too! Cheers Lee

Blue_Cookeh Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 What is coming soon? I'm intrigued?? Their new Firewall OS is getting there.... slowly. This will replace Sophos UTM eventually as an upgrade (I think free) but it doesn't have the complete feature set yet so worth waiting a year or so. https://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/next-gen-firewall.aspx
