edutech4schools Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 At our small primary school our 'Other' server which is 9 years old has recently died. I have moved most services to other computers but our on site WSUS will not be up and running for a while and I need to point all the clients back to Microsoft. You would have thought this would be well documented but I am obviously searching for the wrong thing in Google as I am coming up blank. Has anyone done this or can tell me what I should enter into our group policies so all the clients look to MS for their updates. Thanks
Oaktech Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I assume it is assigned by GPO? Set the the use intranet update server bit to 'not configured' . 1. In the WSUS GPO assigned to this server, DISABLE the policy "Specify intranet Microsoft update service location". 2. If the policy has already been removed, or the machine is in a container with no policy applied for WSUS: Reset the registry value UseWUServer = dword:0x0 (DISABLED), or Delete the entire registry key HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate which will revert the WUAgent to the original installed behavior of Automatic Updates and then set the desired behavior usign the Control Panel | Windows Update dialog. from: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/eff10fab-7ca3-471e-a164-bf7b73a28128/how-to-remove-wsus-client-settings?forum=winserverwsus
