robsonma Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Hi all, I would like to set up an intranet for our school at the moment we host our (internal) sites on Godaddy but this is to be taken away from me.... long story. OK I have set up a Windows Server 2012R2 Called it Intranet given it a Static IP and Installed xampp. I have set it all up and when i type localhost I see my website, I have set up a virtual host and also set it to intranet, set up the server ip and intranet in the hosts file but the page will not load. Local Server Fine, PC on network it just times out, can ping Intranet server by name and IP. RM had a great how to many moons agao and its a long time since I set a webserver up. Anyhelp would be great.
SteveM555 Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 If you're using IE check that "Bypass proxy server for local addresses" is ticked. It may be that your request is going out to the Internet rather than just locally.
foofighterjim Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Make sure Windows Firewall is allowing traffic on the applicable ports.
GRitchie Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Make sure you go to advanced network settings and enable network discovery and file/printer sharing. These have caught me out before!
robsonma Posted February 25, 2016 Author Posted February 25, 2016 Many Thanks, it was windowsfirewall ha ha now who feels dumb!
