This may sound like a really stupid question but I have a RocketRaid hardware raid 5 array with four disks in it and it's becoming pretty obvious that one of them is faulty with lock-ups happening more and more frequently.

The only problem is that the software provided is reporting all the drives as "healthy" within the SMART settings and there's absolutely no indication that there's a problem or which it could be.

Anyone got any suggestions on how to proceed with testing or any tools that might help?

Does the software for the RAID card give you the option to run a consistency check?

Not a "consistency check" but it does allow me to "verify" the RAID array which may or may not mean the same thing...

Yeah, possibly.

I had this issue recently where a bad drive was causing the array to lock up completely. On the third lock-up and subsequent poweroff and poweron, the controller finally decided to flag the drive up as bad.
