Services failing to start after power loss

We had a flood here over the weekend when one of our water pressure boosting tanks burst and my Server room was right in the middle of the water pouring in though the celling, I got a phone call from our premises manager to tell me and I got him to turn the power off to the room as it was going to take me an hour to get in, the UPS should have then cut in and started the shut down process on the 4 servers connected to it but from the looks of it one of the DC's failed to shut down and instead kept on trucking until the batteries went flat.

 

When I turned it back on everything seemed to be working on the domain, computers are able to log in and shares specific to that server are available but yesterday when I tried to connect to it via Remote desktop the connection wouldn't establish saying that RDP might not be enabled on the server, I plugged a screen and keyboard in to the server and noticed that it was saying windows isn't activated and several services have failed to start and it just seems to take ages to do anything, this is a new server that I only bought at the end of 2015 so it should be super quick.

 

The only error I'm getting in event viewer is an error saying that there is a duplicate MAC in the NIC team, I tried rebooting it several times last night and each time it starts up just fine and looks like it's working but as soon as you look at the services you realise that it's not.

 

Does anyone have any suggestion before I have to re-install the OS?

Did it get wet?

 

Remove the nic team, and just try it with a single nic.

no luckily the server cabinet protected the servers and switches from the water.

 

I'll try removing the NIC team but I think that may just be a side effect of a bigger underlying problem.

Probably worth running the usual things on it - DCdiag, chkdsk, etc...

Tried DCdiag and it failed the sysvolcheck and I investigated further and found that DFS Replication isn't working :-/

 

Still no further in figuring this out.

Can you start the DFSr service?

 

I take it you have another DC?

Can you start any of the services manually?

I have 2 DCs, the service just hangs saying it's starting when I try to start it manually it's the same with all of the other services that haven't started automatically.

 

All of the major services seem to be working ok, DHCP, DNS, group policy. the only thing that is worrying me is that the off-site backup runs from the 2nd DC and I'm not sure what files are being backed up because the DFS is out of sync.

Have you done a chkdsk?

 

Still nothing in the Event Viewer?

Yeah sorry I ran a chkdsk last night and it's still the same, still nothing showing up in event viewer, I think I've resigned myself to rebuilding it in the half term.

Can you check if the following services are running?

 

COM+ Event System

Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

DCOM Server Process Launcher

 

I think these are the ones that DFSr is dependent on.

all 3 are running, the DFS Replication and DFS Namespace services are both running too, but when I run a heath report from DFS Managment it's saying it can not access the local WMI repository. I've check and the WMI service is also running.

Just a quick update in case anyone else ever has this problem and finds this thread, it's all fixed now, basically the solution involved booting in to safe mode, opening device manager and selecting show hidden devices and the uninstalling anything that showed up as being greyed out. Once I'd done that I then rebooted the server and it was running normally other than the NIC team which was still playing up so I deleted the team and set that up again now all is well.
