Boredguy Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 OMG, the watch powered Red Bull of Ricciardo just clocked a 1m23.525s on the ultrasoft tyre... Never knew you could wind a spring up that tight....
Patrick Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Maybe the more inefficient engines will be louder if they are using the waste gate more? Need to compare this years honda to last year..
Boredguy Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Watching some of the coverage yesterday, the new Ferrari engine was louder then either the 2015 Sauber when it was pottering around the track, or the Toro Rosso. We should hear the difference more in Qualifying when they are not worried about using the MGU-H to recharge the battery so most of the gases can go via the wastegate.
Boredguy Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Lovely tweet from Renault team after their car caused a red flag after lunch Renault Sport F1 @RenaultSportF1 From our own special analysis (no tech. person involved), we think the car tried to tweet, realised it couldn't & reverted to smoke signals. Who says teams don't have a sense of humour
sonofsanta Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Who says teams don't have a sense of humour The Lotus F1 tweets were always delightfully anarchic. Glad to see they've not been reined in by the corporate machine I do like the Renault line up this year. Shame the car is probably not going to be up to much :/

I really don't think you'll be tell. If no one had said anything, would you even think they are louder? I doubt it. It's a failed attempt really, like the trumpet exhaust they merc trailed last year.
Boredguy Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Well at least they are not bottom of the time sheets so far today.. Alonso was slower on the Soft tyres than Palmer (before the turbo decided to have a late lunch) Actually the Honda hasn't been too bad either day so far.... hope they do some speed runs this afternoon instead of constant speed aero that they have focused on so far.

Typical, now he posts a 1:26.082 to jump ahead of the Renault and go 8th.
Patrick Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Manor running well with that merc engine! Let's see them score points in Australia! I do love an underdog.
Boredguy Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Wehrlein is certainly racking up the laps for them... 54 yesterday, and at least 37 so far today... and no real drama.
sonofsanta Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I think Wehrlein in that Manor will be a bit of a surprise package this year. Tempted to put him in my fantasy line-up, could be a bargain at 6.5m...
Patrick Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I'm going try and see if I can put a bet on them to score points!
Boredguy Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 23rd Feb, 15:02 Laps completed: Rosberg, 128 Alonso, 100 Verstappen, 91 Ricciardo, 96 Bottas, 94 Ericsson, 80 Vettel, 77 Perez, 65 Wehrlein, 46 Gutierrez, 44 Palmer, 42
timbo343 Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 Those mercs are definitely putting some laps in this year. Not as many as last year but just goes to show how reliable their car is. A part of me thinks they are sandbagging at the moment.
timbo343 Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) Just watching Testing Uncut and Roman looks very relaxed at HAAS. Fingers crossed he can mature in that team. He was becoming good at the end of last season. Edited February 23, 2016 by timbo343
Patrick Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Yeah he looked well, but it was probably a quali sim so i wouldn't get too excited.
Boredguy Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Hulkenberg is flying today, isn't he? He was on a 3 lap run with a less fuel than others, but it at least showed some speed out of the Force India, as it was only a few tenths off Seb's time on Tuesday on the Ultra soft. Hopefully next week we might see more realistic times from the teams
sonofsanta Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 I forgot that testing started again today. Live feed: Pre-season testing: Barcelona - BBC Sport
Boredguy Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 I forgot that testing started again today. Live feed: Pre-season testing: Barcelona - BBC Sport I've been sat with the Autosport feed running since I got in this morning. Headline news so far is that the Merc put on some SOFT tyres!!!
sonofsanta Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 I've been sat with the Autosport feed running since I got in this morning. Headline news so far is that the Merc put on some SOFT tyres!!! Yeah, and went 0.7 seconds faster than anyone else has managed on them so far. Yowch.
timbo343 Posted March 1, 2016 Author Posted March 1, 2016 What i find amazing is, Merc are sharing the car between drivers so they are using 1 car and 1 engine and putting in nearly 200 miles per day. I'm sure Ted from Teds Notebook said that from testing part 1, they could've completed 5 GPs of the circuit with that one car. That's immense and the car is outperforming the drivers now.
Boredguy Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 (edited) It was also a case that Lewis complained of being sore after the first day due to the amount of running they got in, so to make sure both drivers were not too broken before the race to split the running during the day... and yep all of Test 1 with 1 engine and 1 chassis and around 10* race distances easily. Then again there is plans for the Merc powered teams to only have 4 units for the entire season this year instead of the 5 they could use as it's over 20 races. [Edit]* Originally put 5, but reviewing information from Sky, it was actually the equivalent to 10 races around Spain.[/edit] Edited March 1, 2016 by Boredguy

I cant work out which is better, the autosport feed or the Crash feed (F1 Barcelona F1 Pre-season Test [2] 2016 Live Commentaries). Actually, it might be the autosport feed.
Boredguy Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Yeah, and went 0.7 seconds faster than anyone else has managed on them so far. Yowch. he was 0.2 seconds slower than Vettel last week on the Ultra soft. Today only Alonso has been on the softs so no real comparison as they have been working on PU delivery
