RM Mobile One - Duplicate MAC Addresses After OS Deployment

Good Afternoon folks,

 

Back in the summer just gone, we re-imaged approximately 15-20 RM Mobile One (T12AR) Notebooks with new Windows 7 Pro images (previously had Windows 7 OS installed on them). However, I have only just noticed they've all got duplicate MAC addresses via the Ethernet Card (Wireless LAN Card is fine though).

 

I found the original MAC address on one example for the Ethernet Card easily enough and I did a search to see which vendor it was from and it showed up as being from ASUS who also supplied the motherboard to RM. However, when booted into the OS, the Ethernet Card shows up as being from Realtek.

 

What I'm asking is whether or not there is a way in which a MAC address can be 'permanently' changed on this particular type of notebook either via a known flash utility (powered by MS-DOS? etc) or some other means. I've already tried a utility provided by AS Rock and it didn't work; whether it was down to the utility not recognising the network card or only being designed for AS Rock motherboards.

Some drivers allow you to specify a Mac of your choosing. Perhaps, for what ever reason, this happened and the registry key was captured into your image?

RM has a tool for fixing this. I saw a similar problem previously with the same devices that would randomly generate a new MAC every time the device rebooted, caused some annoying problems.

The MAC Address wasn't specified in the registry or LAN adapter settings but was copied over for some reason or another when the image was captured.

You might have to contact support unfortunately. Though I believe @speckled might still have a copy (not sure if he reads for the forum still), might be worth dropping him a PM and asking.
