free780 Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Anybody know what causes this to be hidden or no nothing when clicked. I'd like it to be available. A policy somewhere is breaking it. I know the registry to make it open Computer rather than Quick Access.

They see it on initial logon, but disappears on subsequent logons... I'm strugging to muster up the motivation to filter out all existing policies and start building a new gpo framework from scratch... so much work, so little time Edited February 3, 2016 by cogrady84
Michael Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Odds are, this happens differently (per user), rather than a machine issue which would indicate a profile problem. As far as I know, there is no GPO to hide/remove Explorer on the Start Menu, but I might be wrong. You might be able to do it with an XML file customisation, which again is hit and miss. Dare I say it again, but Classic Shell is more reliable and consistent than Windows 10 Start.
kf678 Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 (edited) I had this same issue. I had User-Policies-Admin Template-Start Menu and Taskbar-Remove user's folders from the Start Menu enabled. Once I disabled this setting, my students could click and open File Explorer from the start menu. Edited March 2, 2016 by kf678 Spelling
