1. Can you tier the storage, so you can have a set of SSDs, a set of SAS 15k and a set of SATA 7.2k in there, with each doing different things?

2. Will new versions of the system be released with updated support for new versions of SMB as they are finalised and released by Microsoft?

3. If you implement wide area replication, does it do this on a block level (so as to minimise replication traffic)?

4. How long would support be available for a device? Eg. If we were to have one, could we expect to have it supported for 7 years if needs be (obviously, with some form of yearly cost)?

Sorry for the delay in your answers @localzuk, I thought I posted them ages that same day and I've only just noticed that I didnt. See below

 

1. Can you tier the storage, so you can have a set of SSDs, a set of SAS 15k and a set of SATA 7.2k in there, with each doing different things?

 

We do not do this yet, but will in the future. Of course you can use all of those drives, but the overall performance will be the weighted average performance of all drives in the OneBlox.

 

 

2. Will new versions of the system be released with updated support for new versions of SMB as they are finalised and released by Microsoft?

 

Yes. We have already incorporated SMB 3.0 and are improving it more with each new release.

 

 

3. If you implement wide area replication, does it do this on a block level (so as to minimise replication traffic)?

 

Yes, it does this at the object level. This is the same level that all of ‘the big guys’ use — Google, Amazon, Facebook, etc.

 

 

4. How long would support be available for a device? Eg. If we were to have one, could we expect to have it supported for 7 years if needs be (obviously, with some form of yearly cost)?

 

The OneBlox has 3-year hardware support and this can be extended.

i had a demo of this a while back, looks like a stellar piece of kit - unfortunately there not a chance in hell of me getting the budget for something they don't directly see
