I have just applied my XP image to a load of new Dell Opitplex 320 machines which arrived with Vista.

I have now found that they are not recognizing the second proccesor core where as when they were vista they found both cores.

i have run the Intel Proc ID Utility and that says the second core is disabled.

Please help anyone know how to resolve this?

There are BIOS options to switch off the second core, but it sounds like the wrong HAL has been applied. Did you create the XP image on those machines?

I have checked what you said and in the bios i have selected multi core on and i have upgraded to the most recent release.

i beleive you may be onto something with the HAL though. please see attached screen shot for details. any ideas how to change the hal without having to recreate an image, but i guess if i take an image of one of the affected machines now it will just copy the prob!

thanks for the quick replies

as Dos_Box has said did you create the image on these machines?

what happens if you do a clean XP install from cd on one of them?

i have not tried doing a fresh install of XP, mainly because i dont have the time to create a new image from scratch which would mean installing soooooo much software all over again!
