We set up separate Google accounts for each user, but I haven't tried numerous users on the same account. If you're a school, you can have as many Google Apps for Education accounts as you like for free.

If I was to setup Google Apps for Education, do I have to use a domain name? Our main domain name is already being used with Office 365 and we don't want to change that.

This is where we hit a problem, because we also already use Office 365 so didn't want to change either. We've had students create their own Google accounts (as it was only about 40 students who were wanting to use app inventor). I can't imagine that it would be an issue to use one google account for all....however you may hit problems of kids deleting/editing each others work.

Good question! And one that I asked just last week!

You can run the two simultaneously on the same domain. All we wanted was to use Google Apps for Education for App Inventor and nothing else (no Google Drive and certainly no GMail) which you can do. Once signed up, you can turn individual Google products on or off for users.

All Google need access to your domain for is to prove that you own it. You can do one of three things to do this- add a meta tag to your homepage, add a TXT record to your domain or one other method (which I can't recall right now). Google don't touch your MX record which is what's used for mail.

Kids get @Yourdomain accounts, so they'll log in using theirname@yourdomain, but that's just the username and they can't send/receive mail from that.

Just an update for anyone looking to sign up to Google apps for education. I have just completed the process and it has been very simple. No need for access to domain control panel (MX - TXT records etc). I simple had to upload a file on our website and removed is straight after the verification. The whole sigh-up and verification process to all of 10 minutes. Time to start playing now (setting up users ).
