Remove "Shared" from sidebar for all users on MACs

Hi All,

I am currently setting up a few MACs to deploy into the network. My last hurdle in what seems like quite the saga is setting the default sidebar preferences for all users in finder. The main reason for wanting to do this is to stop the students browsing around all the other machines on the network. I have searched high and low but cannot fiond a way to do this! HELP!!

Thanks in advance.

To remove shared devices from the finder sidebar:

From the Finder

Click on "Finder" next to the Apple in the top left corner

Select the Finder's "preferences"

Select the Sidebar tab

Under Shared, deselect "Connected Servers" and "Bonjour computers"

That should do it

I seem to remember messing around with the following 2 files:

com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist

However I couldn't seem to get it working in yosemite. Not tried El Cap yet so unsure if it works.

Those files work hand in hand, but the sidebar doesn't seem to customise using Yosemite (and above) with Profile Manager.

In theory you should be able to upload the sidebar plist under the "custom settings" area of Profile Manager, but this has never worked with me. Last time I had it working was on Snow Leopard!

Anyone got managed sidebars working?
